Our Experience
William (Bill) Bloking is the Principal of Australia Asia Energy Pty Ltd and is based in Perth, Western Australia. Bill has more than thirty-three years of experience in the energy sector, primarily associated with the commercialization of LNG and pipeline gas in Asia, Australia, Europe, and South America.

With global experience at the highest level, Bill was formerly the President, Australia/Asia Gas for the BHP Billiton Group. In that role he had overall strategic, commercial, and bottom line accountability for BHP Billiton’s international LNG business and its domestic gas business in Australia, including responsibility for BHP Billiton’s interest in the North West Shelf Project, the Bass Strait Project, the Pilbara LNG Project, and the Browse LNG Project. He also built an extensive network of industry and government contacts at the senior-most levels throughout Asia and Australia.

Prior to joining BHP Billiton, Bill spent 24 years with ExxonMobil, where he held a variety of senior executive positions – including Chief Operating Office of Esso Eastern Products Trading Company, Supply Operations Manager for the Far East and Western Hemisphere, and General Manager of Natural Gas in Indonesia, He also had leadership responsibility for two highly successful arbitrations in Australia.

Bill is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is currently the Chairman of Norwest Energy, Asia Biofuels, and Cullen Wines (Australia), and he is a director of the John Holland Group, Delta Pacific Mining, Kal Energy, Cool Energy, the Lions Eye Institute, and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. He also is a Governor of the American Chamber of Commerce in Australia, a Vice Chairman of the Australia China Business Council, a member of the Advisory Board of the University of Western Australia’s Confucius Center, and an Adjunct Professor at Murdoch University.

Prior to retiring from BHP Billiton, Bill was a director of the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association and Chairman of its External Affairs and Strategy Committee. He was also a director of North West Shelf Australia LNG, North West Shelf Gas, Australian LNG Ship Operating Company, and the Victorian Energy Networks Corporation, and he was a member of the Australian Ministerial Council on Energy’s Gas Market Leaders’ Group and the Business Advisory Board of the University of Western Australia’s Oil and Gas Center.

Bill is a citizen of both Australia and the United States. He graduated from the University of South Carolina (USA) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (summa cum laude).
